Hijrah- Immigration

Today is the 1st day of the month of Muharram
Happy New Hijri year ♡
1438 AH

The Islamic Calendar is a lunar one and the first month of the Hijri year is called Al Muharram. The months start when the crescent is sighted in the sky :)
Hijri is from the Arabic work Hijrah هجرة  which means immigration commemorating the second mass Immigration of Muslims when they immigrated from Mekkah to Medina to escape persecution. Four and a half years after the death of Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him, his followers agreed on starting the Islamic calendar from the year of immigration.
1438 years ago religious freedom was not granted in the city of Mekkah and the followers of Islam were persecuted by their own families and the slaves who embraced the new faith were brutally tortured by their owners. The weak and the persecuted needed a way out. 13 years of preaching Islam didn't change the hearts of the tribes leaders and the persecution persisted so there was no other option left for Muslims in Mekkah other than leaving their homeland. They were welcomed by Muslims in Medina with love and hospitality. The story of Immigration is a story of perseverance, unwavering strength especially of ladies who immigrated on their own, it's a story of faith that would make people leave and make their way through the desert hunted after by tyrants just cause they held on to what they believe in. It's a story of hope in a better future, amd of love.
Thanks to that journey Islam was not exterminated. And Muslims kept growing in number till today.
1438 years later after that journey there is a whole lot for us Muslims to learn. Keep your head up high, be proud of who you are, bow to no one other than the one who created you. Always remember that there is no place for Racism in Islam. Remember that the first one to call for prayer was a Black man. Remember Salman the Persian. Remember Muslims of Jewish descent. Remember those who abolished Racism and decided to live together as a community for this religion to reach us. Remember our prophet who taught us that women are the sisters of men. Remember that the first believer in Islam was a woman. Remember that the first martyr in Islam was a woman. And finally, when you're afraid, remember something prophet Muhammad said to his friend and travelling companion to reassure him.
"Fear not Surely God is with us" ♡
